Not too far from the Minor Basilica of Saint Martin of Tours is another significant site of Taal Batangas, the Shrine of the miraculous image of mary, the Our Lady of Caysasay. Unlike the Taal Basilica, the small chapel has nothing really special to offer in terms of its architecture. The facade features four rectangular columns that form three tunnel-shape arches. It has two bell towers on both sides.

A simple facade of the Shrine. The painting on the walls, however, are starting to peel off and I think the Chapel needs a little restoration.
The most stunning highlights of the chapel is the main altar featuring the image of Our Lady of Caysasay. The term Caysasay comes from a specie of bird locally known as the Kasay-Kasay. The small image is known for numerous miraculous events and apparition. Some people are calling the image as the Vanishing Lady due to some reports telling that the original image used to vanish every night from the urn and will reappear every morning. The image, which depicts the Immaculate Conception, is believed to be one of the oldest in the country, having been found in 1603 by a man fishing in the Pansipit River. You can have a closer look to the image in one my posts during the Grand Marian procession here.
A closer look of the altar. The image was canonically crowned in 1954 and was later given the title the “Queen of the Archdiocese of Lipa”.
What I like the most in this church is the octagonal balustrade dome with intricate black and white painting depicting some events taken from the bible.
The chapel also has a pulpit
Near the church is the so-called San Lorenzo Ruiz Steps and miraculous Well of Sta Lucia (I’m going to post about it on my next entry) Meanwhile, you can visit my post about these churches too!
